Here is a traveling truth I hold self-evident: Many places that cater to tourists just serve awful food.
A corollary to this rule is: the better the view, the worse the food. I've had some of the most disappointing food in the restaurants where I enjoyed the most spectacular scenery. (The trick, then, is to go for drinks and appetizers and save the serious eating for the places where the cuisine is the main concern.)
In Istanbul, Hamdi is an exception. I suggested this spot to my friend Hilary Davidson, who just wrote about it for her blog, Gluten-Free Guidebook. Check it out.
