Magnificent Munching in Montreal –

Montreal is one of my favorite food cities. To me it’s like experiencing alternate reality — what if the French  secured dominion over the colonies that were to become the United States? What if we called ourselves Les Etats- Unis?

In Montreal, there’s a similar food environment as there is here in the Northeastern United States, an analogous steady flow of immigrants influencing the cuisine — but all interpreted through a decidedly French sensibility.  (I’ve wrote about this idea as applied to Jewish delis on Perceptive Travel not long ago.)

I do realize that there are other important differences that I’m blithely ignoring, but you get the idea.
